Ophiopogon planiscapus nigrescens is a striking evergreen groundcover plant known for its unusual deep purple to almost black foliage. Its dramatic colouring provides strong contrast against bright green or silver plants, making it an excellent choice for borders, edging, containers, rockeries and contemporary landscaping. Ophiopogon planiscapus nigrescens grows well in full sun to partial shade and performs best in fertile, well-drained soil with regular moisture. Its compact, clumping growth habit makes it easy to incorporate into smaller garden spaces, while its dark foliage creates a distinctive feature when planted in groups.
